I am checking into Notre Dane as a freshman with Ed Berkman (a current friend whom I didn’t know then and who did not attend Notre Dame). I go into Cavanaugh Hall (the dorm I actually lived in when I went to ND) and there are girls all over the place, running around and horsing around. (ND was all-male when I went there.) I think something is crazy, but I’m not sure what. I start to put my things away and there is what seems like a giant medicine cabinet that is made up of black compartments that I cannot see into. I have a pack of cigarettes that I put onto the top bunk bed and I go out to meet Ed. I come back to the room and I see one of the girls putting the cigarette pack back and she has a cigarette in her mouth. I can’t find Ed and then I realize it is an all-girls dorm (which in fact it is today) and I don’t belong there.
